Has Anyone Heard About The New Legend Of Zelda For The Wii, ts Supposed To Be Coming Out For The Wii Soon? Then Again Maybe It Isn't. I Tried To Ask The Same Question Earlier But All I Got Was Talk About The One For DS, Which Really Kinda Bord Me Compared To What The New One Can Be Like, Or Maybe Im Just Bord, I Don't Know But I Do Know That There Is An Artwork For it That's Brand Spanking New And Its Supposed To Be For the Wii And The Wii Motion Plus Or Something Like That. That's What My Rumors Say, Im Kinda Hoping That For Once The Rumors Were True. | nintendo still have the new zelda wii in devolpment and hopefully it comes out late next year or in 2011.
and miyamoto has said that he is going to make the zelda with the wii motion plus and have it more realistic than any other zelda game and also said it's going to be different from the other zelda games | What do you think of this? v. Gender roles/expectations? We have been doing work over at our new house for the last few weeks and had the pleasure of meeting a few of our neighbors. They are a nice, younger couple and they have 2 guyren. When their father brought them over to introduce us, he presented his daughter (who is about 6, I believe) and then his son. He said, "Now this is Henry, he's almost 2. Don't be fooled by his clothes, he is a boy. He is just obsessed with his big sister and likes to wear dresses...we're just kind of going with it for now." The father seemed a little unsure about telling us this, and I guess I can see why, but we all just smiled and said hello to the little fellow. My SIL (who was there at the time) later told me a story about a little boy who goes to the Christian daycare center she works at...evidently he is spanked for playing with dolls and making "girly" art. My SIL instructs all of the other providers to let him play with and draw whatever he wants, and just not to send his artwork home with him.
Isn't that sad? She told me that and I was even more happy for our neighbor couple for letting their boy be who he is. And it got me thinking about this double standard: Why is it ok for a girl to play with "boy" toys and do "boy" things, but it's not ok for a boy to do or have "girl" things? I was never discouraged from doing those things as a guy, I was just fondly referred to as a tomboy.
What do you think of this? What would you do if your male toddler wanted to dress in girl's clothing and/or play with girl's toys? | It is too bad that there is a double standard here, but of course, there are many when it comes to the sexes. I too was a tomboy, and no one batted an eye at it. Unfortunately, I think it is because when a girl does boy things, she is seen as tougher (if any different at all). However, a boy doing girl things is often seen as some sign of weakness. Also, for people that worry about the sexual orientation of their guyren, it seems the fear is greater with boys than girls, whether it makes sense or not.
The story your SIL told you makes me very sad, but I applaud her part in giving the boy somewhere he can be himself. Perhaps their religious beliefs are that they must stop him, or they would be encouraging him to "become" a homosexual later in life. I believe two things in this situation. The first being that every guy is different, and a boy showing interest in "girly" things does NOT mean he will grow up to like men. Secondly, I believe that homosexuality is not a choice, and is not a behavior a parent can effectively encourage or discourage. As a parent, all one can decide is whether or not that guy will feel supported, or ashamed of their orientation.
There are many sad stories, but I am happy that you can at least take comfort knowing that your guyren, as well as your neighbor's guyren, will never have to go through a situation like that of the poor guy at your SIL's daycare. A world where all guyren are accepted for who they are would be a wonderful place. | All-Purpose Apology Letter -- What combination would you choose? Dear:
